I have never been to Milton Keynes before so when we were offered to stay there I really didn’t know what to expect! I have never really had the best impression of Milton Keynes and I really don’t know why! We were certainly pleasantly surprised. We stayed in the Travelodge in Milton Keynes at The Hub.

Location

The location could not be better! It is central to absolutely everything! There are so many resturants in the immediate area including Gourmet Burger Kitchen, Nandos, Turtle Bay and Loch Fyne. It is only about a 5 minute walk to get to Intu Milton Keynes and The Centre. Both have many shops and restaurants, it is very easy to spend a good few hours there. Whilst we were there Wimbledon was on so they had a huge court area set up with a giant screen showing the tennis and lots of deckchairs that you could sit and watch. It is also very easy access to the motorway and many local attractions including Woburn Safari Park, Stadium MK and Bletchley Park.

Breakfast

At this Travelodge there is a restaurant so it is all you can eat buffet. Some of the other Travelodge’s don’t have restaurants so you can order a breakfast box. At the time of our stay all you can eat breakfast was £8.25 and children ate free. For breakfast there was a selection of cereals, fruit salad, cooked breakfast items, bread/toast and a choice of hot drinks or fruit juices. Breakfast is served from 8am until 11am so whether you are an early riser preparing to go out for the day or you would prefer to have a bit of a lay in, breakfast will still be being served. Dinner is also served in the restaurant and there is a bar area if you just wanted to go for a drink.

The second morning we were having breakfast we had such a lovely waitress. Lola had been extremely ill before we went. She still wasn’t hundred percent whilst we were away. As a result of her being ill she really wasn’t that interested in food at all. The waitress though was fantastic with her. She spent such a long time talking to her and helping encourage her to eat. She provided the extra support that we needed.

Areas of Improvement

I won’t lie, our first impressions really weren’t that good. When we arrived we discovered that the free car park was shut for a couple of weeks. Thankfully it was only a few minutes walk to other parking. The other parking was paid though so we ended up having to pay for parking the whole time we were away.

Once in reception there was a few issues with our booking as the staff could not understand why there was a family room booked. They ended up giving us a Double room and had a put up bed in with us. Therefore I don’t know what differences in rooms there would have been if we had been given the family room that was booked.

I don’t know if it is every room but from what I’ve seen from photos a majority of the rooms have a walk in shower. Thankfully Lola loves having a shower so it wasn’t as much an issue with us. I know that it could be with other families or if they have younger children who would need a bath. Being a walk in shower meant that the entire bathroom was soaked within minutes of being in the shower. This was quite frustrating especially as when we were dressed and going back into brush our teeth Lola would decide it was the perfect time to sit down on the wet floor!

Although it’s great having the breakfast buffet I do feel that there could be more selection for example you could only have scrambled egg. For the price paid compared to other hotels it is not quite as much for the money.

Would we return?

Without a doubt we would certainly return! You get what you pay for and Travelodge is a budget hotel so this is what you would expect. The location makes up for everything. We have fallen in love with Milton Keynes (especially Lola with the splash area outside the hotel!) There are so many hotels in the area but knowing that we would likely go on a budget we would certainly decide to stay in the Travelodge
