Any cherry lover will know that it is currently the season for cherries! I absolutely love cherries and certainly have passed this love on to Lola! They really are a super easy healthy snack.

#LoveFreshCherries

Cherry season in the UK is from around June until September (weather dependent). Nothing beats having fresh cherries especially during the weather that we have been experiencing recently! Whenever we are shopping Lola will always point out the cherries and ask me to buy them for her. She is also so proud of herself being able to take a bite out of a cherry and spitting out the pip instantly! The are a vital part of a picnic or if we are out and about as well as a fruit that we love for breakfast, dessert or just as a snack!

There are 100’s of varieties of cherries and they are either sweet or sour. The sweeter ones are the ones you can eat instantly whereas the sour ones are the ones usually used for cooking. Each of the different varieties ripen at different points during the season so that’s how come you see different varieties are different points in the supermarkets.

Goodness!

Did you know cherries are packed full of plenty of goodness! Only fourteen cherries class as one of your five a day. I know I can easily eat more than fourteen in one go! Not only are they one of you five a day but they are also full of fibre, vitamins and minerals. They are also a huge source of melatonin which helps improve sleep quality and quantity. Surely it’s worth eating them knowing this!!

As an added bonus cherries are also know for their antioxidant properties. They protect cells that are damaged by oxidants. They are shown to be beneficial for those with inflammatory conditions (however there are currently more studies researching into this)
